Accounting Manager

 Cal/West Seeds is actively seeking a qualified individual to become Accounting Manager at its Woodland, California Headquarters.

 The Accounting Manager is responsible for managing the general accounting function ensuring reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles.   Evaluates and makes appropriate improvements to internal accounting processes ensuring that practices are in line with the overall goals of the organization.  Responsible for managing accounting staff to ensure that work is properly allocated and completed in a timely and accurate manner

 Job Description 

1.    Job Identification:

  •  Position Title:   Accounting Manager
  •  Department:     Finance
  •  Reports to:       Vice President/CFO

2.     Basic Function:

The Accounting Manager is responsible for managing the general accounting function ensuring reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles.   Evaluates and makes appropriate improvements to internal accounting processes ensuring that practices are in line with the overall goals of the organization.  Responsible for managing accounting staff to ensure that work is properly allocated and completed in a timely and accurate manner.

3.    Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Management

Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures.

Manage accounting department staff which includes a small number of direct and indirect reports.

Transactions

Reviews and approves accounts payable ensuring they are paid in a timely manner and comply with company policy.

Ensure that all reasonable discounts are taken on accounts payable.

Ensure that accounts receivable are collected promptly.

Ensure that periodic bank reconciliations are completed.

Ensure that required debt payments are made on a timely basis.

Reviews and approves applications for new credit arrangements.

Maintain the chart of accounts.

Maintain an orderly accounting filing system

Maintain a system of controls over accounting transactions.

Serve as a back-up for payroll processing.

Reporting

Issue timely and complete financial statements.

Calculate and issue financial and operating metrics for Board presentation.

Assist the CFO with managing the production of the annual budget and forecasts.

Calculate variances from the budget and report significant issues to management.

Compliance

Coordinate the provision of information to external auditors for the annual audit.

Monitor debt levels and compliance with debt covenants in coordination with the CFO.

Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings

Other duties as required.

4.    Equipment, software requirements to perform job: 

Proficient in Word, Excel, Access, Microsoft Outlook, PowerPoint, Pacifica

5.    Education Requirements:  

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business administration, or equivalent business experience and 7+ years of progressively responsible experience in an agricultural based company.

Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant designations preferred.

Accounting experience in an agricultural cooperative desired.

6.    Skills necessary to complete job:

Strong general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, property tax and banking working knowledge.

Strong leadership skills.

Working knowledge of budgets and financial statements.

Proven managerial experience.

Results oriented.

Ability to accept and support change.

Ability to interface with management, growers, staff and other functional areas of the community.

Problem solving ability (team and individual).

Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).

Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to motivate people toward a goal.
