Cal/West Seeds SRL was incorporated in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 2004 to begin selling Cal/West's high value forage seed products directly through Agricultural Dealers throughout Argentina.
Cal/West had been selling high quality US produced alfalfa seed in Argentina for many years. During the 1970's in Association with the University of California, Cal/West introduced CUF 101 known for its winter growth ability, drought tolerance and for resistance to aphids. This was an important development for meat and milk production when compared with the national alfalfa variety called "Pampeana".
During the 80's, Cal/West was one of the first companies to introduce new and improved proprietary or private varieties with improved yield, forage quality and stand persistence when compared to CUF 101.
In the early 90's Cal/West initiated Research and Development activities in key alfalfa growing regions of Argentina with the goal of developing varieties of alfalfa that are better suited for the climate and soils of the country. Several varieties resulting from this Argentine breeding program such as DK 194, CW 620 and CW 830 are now available from Cal/West SRL. These products demonstrate Value Through Innovation by providing alfalfa growers in Argentina with the added value of improved frost and leaf disease tolerance.
Cal/West SRL distributes DK as well as CW branded varieties of improved alfalfa, clover and forage sorghum seeds through a network of dealers throughout the Argentina.
